What is it that makes your life and leadership special? Is it your skills? Experience? Personality? Leadership style? All these characteristics help form the person and leader you are. But something greater is at work in you. The Bible reminds us of this important characteristic in Ephesians 2:10.
One foundational question anyone must answer is this: “Why am I here?” Until you have a firm answer to that question, your vision and purpose may fluctuate and flounder. You may even wander aimlessly in life, not knowing what is the right direction for you. When we come to terms with the truth that God has already determined this for me, you gain so much clarity in your life and how to move forward toward that vision and purpose. How is it that the Creator of the universe gives you purpose? Write it down that first sentence from Ephesians 2:10.
I am God’s masterpiece.
Ephesians 2:10
This verse is so full of rich meaning for the Christ-follower! Literally, this one short sentence says that you are God’s masterpiece, as in a work of art. You are God’s own design. You are not an accident, but you were made from the vision of God!
He created you with a specific purpose in mind, and that is to be productive in His kingdom, according to His own will. He willed you into existence with His own purpose. This is profound! Being created by God means that you were formed or “manufactured,” made and shaped with His hands. Another powerful truth! God, who created the universe and sustains it by His power took the time to form you and make you with purpose. Write this down:
God made me with purpose by His own hands.
Ephesians 2:10
The fact that He made you tells you that He has a specific purpose and plan in mind for you. In fact, Paul the Apostle states that fact very plainly in this verse. God had a plan when He formed you. Write this down:
I am made by God to do good things.
Ephesians 2:10
And notice one last truth: You are no accident! God made you before your parents ever thought about you. He had a vision for you from the beginning. He planned your purpose from before time. He designed good things for you to do before you were born, long before you drew your first breath. God has a plan for you right now and for the rest of your life. Write this down:
God has a plan for me.
Ephesians 2:10
Now, let’s summarize and put all this together, so write this down:
I was created with a purpose, made as God’s masterpiece by His own hands to do good for Him. He has a vision and plan for me.
As a servant-leader, meditate on this verse today and for the next few days. If you have not already formulated and written your life plan, now is the time to begin thinking about that. I encourage you to journal your thoughts on this verse over the next few days and how profound and life-changing God wants to be in your home, at work, and wherever you are.
